Set on a multi award winning macadamia plantation within the rich farmlands and natural lush rainforests of this spectacular sub-tropical region Hume's Hovell stands as an oasis of quality accommodation just south of Byron Bay in the rolling green hills above Ballina. This luxury bed and breakfast has been reviewed by the Australian NRMA 'Open Road"' magazine as one of the states best short break destinations.
Each of the luxury accommodation suites has been designed to bathe in morning sunlight and catch the cooling afternoon north-easterly onshore breeze of the Australian summer. The Plantation suite features a glass walled two-person spa with guests screened by a two metre high camellia hedge. All suites are generously proportioned and have king size beds, en-suites, reverse cycle air conditioning, TV /DVD, stereo systems, the latest magazines, comfy lounges, bar frig, private entrances etc. All overlook the shimmering pool, tennis court and macadamia trees of the plantation and each suite has its own Brazilian hammock on a secluded outdoor verandah and we have complimentary wireless internet broad-band reception throughout.
Guests are welcomed with afternoon tea or coffee and home made cake as they settle in and relax and enjoy this retreat from today's world in the privacy of your own suite. A complimentary drink and nibbles are offered as the sun's shadows lengthen and this provides an opportunity to meet and relax with other guests before dining at one of the local restaurants or cafes. At short notice we can provide a cook-your-own BBQ, a beef, lamb or chicken curry or quiche with garden salads and desert but you must pre arrange any evening dining with Suzanne as we are primarily a bed and breakfast.
Full hot breakfasts are served poolside with the morning sun filtering through Bangalow palms, subtropical gardens and macadamia trees as the music of magpies calling, kookaburras laughing and the singing of spectacularly coloured eastern rozellas welcome in the new day.
This easternmost region of Australia is a quilted panorama of emerald hills, pristine surf beaches by day, clear sunny skies and sparkling stars at night. The warm balmy days of winter are like a Tasmanian summer and our summer is like heaven!
The quirky name "Hume's Hovell" came from Peter being a descendent of Hamilton Hume's family [Hume and Hovell were the first to the explore an overland trail from Sydney to Melbourne]. The Hume Highway is named after that epic journey of discovery.
Hume's Hovell is very definitely not a hovel and is wheelchair friendly.
